Your recovery, stage by stage

Day 1 — the first 24 hours

Rest with your eyes closed as much as you can, use your prescribed drops on schedule, wear your protective shield when sleeping, and stay hydrated. Expect mild grittiness and light sensitivity — this is normal.

Day 2–3 — first post-op check

You return to the clinic so your surgeon can confirm healing and vision. Most patients already see clearly. You can start short screen sessions, always with UV sunglasses outdoors.

Day 4–7 — back to normal routine

Desk work, gentle walks, and reading in moderation are fine. Keep using your drops as directed and avoid swimming, saunas, dusty places, and eye makeup for now.

Around Week 1 — flying home

SMILE PRO and SMILE LASIK patients are often cleared to fly within a few days; LASEK needs longer surface healing; ICL is usually a few days. Your surgeon confirms your eyes are healing well before you fly.

Month 1 — full activity

Sports, swimming, and makeup are generally back on the table. Keep following your aftercare guidance; see a local eye doctor for a check-up if recommended.

Month 6 — final confirmation

By now your vision is typically stable and settled. If you have any concern during recovery, see a local eye doctor.

Day 1 essentials

The do’s and don’ts that matter most

  • Do rest with eyes closed and nap often.
  • Do use your drops exactly on schedule.
  • Do wear the protective shield when sleeping.
  • Do drink plenty of water and rest your eyes.
  • Don’t rub or touch your eyes.
  • Don’t stare at phones or screens for long.
  • Don’t let water or soap run onto your face.
  • Don’t drink alcohol — it slows healing.

FAQ

Recovery questions

What if I rub my eye by accident?

Don’t panic — message us immediately. For SMILE PRO, the tiny opening is well healed by around Day 2, so a brush is unlikely to cause harm. For LASIK, the flap stays a little more vulnerable for about a week, so be extra careful and let us check it if you’re worried.

Can I sleep on my side?

For SMILE PRO, side-sleeping with your shield is generally fine from Day 1. For LASIK, sleeping on your back for the first few nights helps protect the flap.

Will it hurt?

Most patients feel mild grittiness, watering, and light sensitivity for a day or two — “irritating but not painful” is the common description. We provide everything you need to stay comfortable.

When can I drive?

Daytime driving is usually fine from around Day 2 after your post-op check for SMILE PRO and LASIK. Night driving may take a week or two as temporary glare settles. LASEK needs longer — your surgeon will tell you when you’re ready.

Do I have to stay in Korea for every follow-up?

Your essential post-op check is done in Korea, before you fly home. After that, follow your aftercare instructions and see a local eye doctor for routine check-ups during recovery.
